Two weeks of Senior events, from awards to commencement: See what's planned

Red Hook Central School District
Yianna Giannouis addresses the Class of 2024 at commencement Saturday.

Tonight, June 10, marks the beginning of a busy two weeks for Red Hook High School seniors to cap their time in the district.

Yes, there are still exams to take before reaching graduation day. But there will also be numerous fun activities ranging from athletic competitions and nostalgic experiences to Prom night.

The stretch begins with Awards night June 10 at 6 p.m. at the high school's Performing Arts Center, in which awards and scholarships will be announced.

June 11 will bring the Senior Olympics during blocks 3 and 4 of the regular school day. Seniors will be able to participate in various games and challenges.

On June 13 there will be a Prom Safety assembly. SADD and the Red Hook Police Department have coordinated a program to help students understand safe decision making and the ramifications of dangerous behavior on what should be a memorable - and incident-free - occasion.

This Saturday, June 14 is Prom from 6-10 p.m. at Diamond Mills in Saugerties. Seniors can join their peers for one last opportunity to dance the night away. Students must arrive no later than 7 p.m. and must remain at the event until at least 9 p.m. (unless prior written permission is given). A specific permission form will be provided to students.

The Post-Prom event will follow at Bard College from 11 p.m.-3 a.m. Students cannot leave the party and come back but they can leave whenever they want. There will be a DJ, but also basketball and volleyball, a bounce house and access to a pool. There will be snacks, bagels, wraps, fruit and treats. Students should bring a change of clothes before coming to the party or bring a change of clothes, as well as a swimsuit and towel if they plan to swim.

Monday, June 16, isn't only the last day of classes before exams, it's also the Senior Walk Through and Barbeque. Seniors board buses at 9:15 a.m. and parade through the halls of their former schools while young students cheer and enjoy the inspiration of watching the soon-to-be grads. The Senior BBQ will follow from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on the high school lawn, featuring food, music and games.

Graduation rehearsal will be Friday, June 20 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Attendance is mandatory with no exceptions. Caps and gowns will be distributed. Students will need to have their lockers cleaned out prior to rehearsal.

Students should arrive at rehearsal with their:

  • District-issued laptop, charger and power block.
  • Parking pass.
  • Textbooks.
  • Textbook debt (if applicable).
  • Athletic uniforms/equipment.

Students who have lost computer equipment will be required to pay the replacement costs:

  • Charger cord $19
  • Charger block $39
  • Both pieces of charger $58

Finally, Saturday, June 21, our Commencement Ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on the lawn outside of LAMS. Seniors should arrive by 9 a.m.

If the ceremony is held outdoors there will be no limit on seats for family and friends per graduate. If there is inclement weather, the ceremony will be relocated to the Performing Arts Center and each senior will receive four tickets for family and friend attendees. Overflow viewing will be offered inside the LAMS cafeteria. A livestream of the ceremony will also be available online.
