A Welcoming and Diverse Community of Learners

Navigating Change: AI, Cell Phones, and the Impact on Learning

Posted Date: 7/31/25 (10:32 AM)

Dear Red Hook High School Families,
The upcoming school year promises to be an exciting one, full of learning, growth, and meaningful experiences. At the same time, it will also bring some important changes—including New York State’s new “bell-to-bell” cell phone ban in schools. This policy shift comes at a moment when we’re also witnessing rapid advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), which are reshaping the world around us, including education.
While AI and emerging technologies offer incredible potential to enhance learning, they also raise important questions and challenges. Combined with the new cell phone policy, these developments are likely to affect how students engage with their education, both inside and outside the classroom.
To help families navigate these changes, we will be hosting a special presentation to share insights, guidance, and practical strategies related to AI in education and the implementation of the new cell phone guidelines.
You are warmly invited to attend:
Navigating Change: AI, Cell Phones, and the Impact on Learning
Tuesday, August 26 at 6:00 PM
Red Hook High School Performing Arts Center
This session is designed for parents and guardians, but students are also welcome to attend. While we won’t be able to cover every aspect of AI, and I don’t claim to be an expert, this event is intended to start an important conversation—one that we expect will evolve in the months and years ahead.
The evening will include a presentation followed by an open question-and-answer session, where we invite your thoughts, concerns, and ideas.
We hope you can join us for this important discussion as we work together to support our students in an ever-changing world.
Thank you for your time and we hope to see you there! If you have any questions, feel free to email me at kroddey@rhcsd.org
Have a wonderful day!
Dr. Roddey
