Mission and Vision
Our Mission Statement: Red Hook Central School District is a welcoming and diverse community of learners committed to personal growth and caring for others.
Our Vision Statement: The Red Hook Central School District seeks to empower each individual to embrace today and navigate the possibilities of tomorrow.
About our School and Students
Red Hook High School is a comprehensive high school serving over 500 students in grades 9-12. More than 80% of our graduates pursue post-secondary education at two- or four-year colleges. Our seniors are regularly accepted to a diverse range of colleges and universities, including highly selective institutions such as Yale, MIT, Princeton, Cornell, Swarthmore, Smith, Colby, Connecticut College, Hamilton, Bard, Boston University and many others. A significant number of students also attend SUNY campuses and local community colleges.
We take pride in offering a broad array of opportunities that allow students to excel based on their individual interests, talents and future aspirations. Red Hook High School offers a balance of academic rigor and personalized support, with strong programs in career and technical education, theater, music, fine arts, and many other specialized areas.
One of our signature academic offerings is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme — one of the few in the Hudson Valley. Approximately 25% of our students pursue the full IB Diploma, while many others select individual IB courses such as IB Theater, IB Sports Science, IB Psychology, and more. In addition to IB coursework, students may enroll in Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors classes, as well as take advantage of dual enrollment opportunities through partnerships with Marist University, Bard College and Dutchess Community College.
Our curriculum integrates information literacy and 21st-century skills using both traditional and emerging technologies. Approximately 10% of our students participate in vocational programs at the BOCES Tech Center in Salt Point, preparing them for immediate entry into the workforce or further specialized study.
Red Hook High School places a strong emphasis on supporting student mental health and overall well-being. Our Student Services Office offers a range of therapeutic supports, complemented by ongoing programming that includes mental health assemblies and regular visits from therapy dogs. All ninth grade students participate in Teen Mental Health First Aid training as part of our Freshman Focus class, which also helps students build essential executive functioning skills such as goal-setting, time management, conflict resolution and effective communication.
Outside the classroom, Red Hook High School offers a vibrant and inclusive extracurricular experience. Our athletics teams compete in the Mid-Hudson Athletic League and Section 9, with interscholastic sports including field hockey, football, volleyball, lacrosse, cross-country, golf, basketball, tennis, baseball, softball, track and field, wrestling and soccer. Students may also participate in a variety of clubs and organizations such as Yearbook, Student Council, Model UN, Theater Arts, International Club, Amnesty International, Interact and many others.
Red Hook High School: A small learning community with a world of opportunities.
